Juliana Piccillo is a mother, a writer, ex-sex worker, and a filmmaker.

Her essay “Vice”is in the anthology, Hos, Hookers, Call Girls, and Rent Boys (Soft Skull Press, July 2009), which was featured on the cover of the New York Times Book Review, this past August.
The Daily Rumpus review of the anthology stated, “The standout offering, however, is Juliana Piccillo’s “Vice,” an exploration of her relationship with an invasive and needy client that rendered her alternately gratified and repulsed.”

Juliana’s resume includes working as a masseuse at the massage parlors Emilie’s and Body Fantasy, university teaching in television and filmmaking, selling lingerie at Frederick’s of Hollywood, reporting for the Associated Press, and producing corporate video for Fortune 500 clients.

Her film, I was a Teenage Prostitute, premiered in the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City and also screened in the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival, Women in the Director’s Chair, and numerous other venues.  Currently in production, Whores on Film, a documentary written and directed by Juliana, explores cinematic depictions of sex work through the eyes sex workers themselves in a series of interviews.

Juliana has been interviewed by CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, the Associated Press, Leslie Marshall, Playboy, Slate, and numerous others magazines and newspapers. She’s featured in the film Magdalene Unveiled: The Ancient and Modern Sacred Prostitute, by Kenneth Ray Stubbs (2006).
